Did you know that the Baptist Health Foundation provides a “Blanket of Hope” for each patient when they are diagnosed with breast cancer?
These blankets began with a special friendship and now carry a message of hope to each of our breast cancer patients.
In 2002, Kathy Martins was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her dear friend, Kim Hockert, made a blanket for her just like this one, which saw her through many surgeries and chemotherapy treatments.
Throughout her journey, the blanket symbolized warmth, love and encouragement but most of all HOPE. As a result, a circle of girlfriends and breast cancer survivors began making blankets for other women who had been newly diagnosed. They called them Blankets of Hope.
The mission of Blankets of Hope is to provide women diagnosed with breast cancer the same warmth, love and encouragement that Kathy received. Kathy lost her brave and courageous battle with breast cancer in January of 2006, and it is because of her we
continue to provide these blankets.
